UFH is one of Austria’s leading compliance organisations for electrical and electronic equipment and batteries. As a licensed system partner, UFH ensures the professional collection, recycling and reporting of batteries and accumulators in accordance with Austrian law.
Frequently Asked Questions
Any natural or legal person who, regardless of the method of sale,
a) is established in Austria and manufactures batteries or has them designed and manufactured and sells them for the first time in Austria under their brand name, or
b) is established in Austria and resells batteries from other manufacturers under their own brand name, on which the names of the other manufacturers are not affixed, or
c) is established in Austria and imports batteries from other Member States or third countries into Austria for the first time on a commercial basis as an importer and sells them in Austria (the parties to the purchase contract and the invoicing are decisive, not the delivery route) or
d) is not established in Austria and sells batteries directly to end consumers (private or commercial) in Austria as a ‘foreign distance seller’ using means of distance communication.
Since 18 August 2025, the following battery types have been distinguished:
1. Device batteries
2. Batteries for light vehicles
3. Industrial batteries
4. Electric vehicle batteries
5. Starter batteries*
*UFH offers the authorised representative service for all battery categories, including starter batteries. For starter batteries, UFH refers to UFS as the collection and recycling system.
Manufacturers within the meaning of the Austrian BAT-VO, the EU Battery Regulation or the BattBegG, which will come into force in the future, and who are based in Austria must submit a registration application on the EDM portal (Austrian register). This will
give the manufacturer their GLN number, which is the unique registration number in Austria. After receiving the access data from the Federal Environment Agency (UBA), it is important to log in and maintain the data. At your request, UFH can initiate the registration application for your company.
For manufacturers based outside Austria who appoint UFH as their authorised representative, UFH will take care of the registration with the responsible Austrian Federal Ministry (BMLUK).
